On October 10, Beijing Forestry University (BFU) hosted the Sixth International Forum on Green and Sustainable Design as a sub-forum of the Fourth Beijing Interdisciplinary Science Conference (BISC). The event focused on interdisciplinary design in the era of intelligence, green development and ecology, and brought together experts from universities, research institutions and industry.

In the opening remarks, Wang Qiang, Vice President of BFU, outlined how the university draws on its strengths in forestry and ecology to support integrated development of natural systems. It will continue to combine forestry and ecology with landscape, smart habitat, product equipment, and art design to pioneer new design and talent models. Li Jing, Standing Director and Secretary-General of the Beijing Interdisciplinary Science Society (BISS), highlighted the value of interdisciplinary research in addressing real-world challenges and called for closer collaboration among universities, research institutions and industry.

The program featured keynote speeches, a roundtable and thematic presentations. Speakers from BFU, Tsinghua University, Jiangnan University and other institutions shared work on urban green development, bamboo architecture, public art and contemporary ceramic design. The roundtable explored how intelligent technologies can work with traditional materials and contribute to public art and urban ecology.

The thematic presentations covered virtual reality, cultural gene mapping, smart environments, AI-assisted design, digital interpretation of cultural heritage, interactive design for children and ecological aesthetics. Speakers included representatives from Beijing Jiaotong University and industry, including HTC and Lenovo.

The forum showcased research connecting design with architecture, materials, information technology and the arts and humanities, providing a platform for interdisciplinary exchange, design innovation and collaboration among academia, research institutions and industry.
