Beijing Forestry University's research team, led by Professor Dong Yuqiang from the College of Arts and Design, unveiled the capital's first comprehensive Garden City Nature Zones Map during the Beijing Biodiversity Policy Summit on International Biodiversity Day on May 22. Commissioned by the municipal government, the map guides citizens to 558 conservation sites, including wildlife corridors and restored wetlands, across the capital.

The map transforms complex ecological data into intuitive visual symbols, pinpointing biodiversity zones and conservation areas across beijing neighborhoods while overcoming information overload through a three-tier coding system. Its accessible design balances scientific precision with public appeal, empowering residents to discover urban wildlife near their homes.

The research team completed the task in just over a month, integrating vector data from 16 districts and 337 townships, and developing a three - level ecological gradient symbol system. This ensures both information clarity and aesthetic value, resolving the issue of information overload in professional maps.

The team is now developing interactive digital versions to enable real-time ecological monitoring for future Beijing Garden City - related digital maps. Other team members include Wang Han, Lian Qiwen, Zhang Miying, Wang Yihan, and Wang Linzhuo.
