Beijing Forestry University (BFU) introduced the newly formed Flyway University Alliance (FUA) to a global audience at the 12th Meeting of Partners (MOP12) of the East Asian-Australasian Flyway Partnership (EAAFP) in Cebu, Philippines. The event brought together over 300 delegates from more than 20 countries.

As the host institution for the EAAFP Science Unit, BFU jointly launched FUA with the EAAFP Secretariat. A university delegation participated prominently throughout the conference. Professor Lei Guangchun delivered a keynote address on behalf of FUA, advocating for expanded collaboration across sectors to achieve harmonious coexistence between people and biodiversity.

BFU faculty and students contributed to multiple key sessions. Professor Ding Changqing, chair of the Baer's Pochard Task Force, honored a late colleague Richard Hearn for his invaluable contributions to flyway conservation. Lv Si, Executive Deputy Director of the East Asia-Australasia Flyway Research Centre, presented China's recent wetland conservation resolution, while Associate Professor Zeng Qing reported on flyway habitat networks. Doctoral candidate Sun Lili shared strategies for engaging younger generations in bird conservation.

BFU student Liu Ziyue, an FUA speech competition winner from the School of Foreign Languages, presented on creating bird-friendly urban spaces. Beyond the plenary sessions, the delegation also engaged in side events and exhibited policy research outputs supported by the Asian Development Bank.

With its long-standing leadership in flyway research, strengthened by its hosting of the EAAFP Science Unit, BFU will continue to advance the FUA alliance and cross-border efforts to protect migratory birds and their habitats.
