On June 7, the International College and the School of Economics and Management jointly held the 2nd "Getting close to China"  lecture series for international students, with the theme of "Getting close to Chinese traditional furniture--Chinese wisdom in mortise and tenon". Leaders from the International College and the School of Economics and Management attended the lecture.

According to the leader of the International College, sharing the knowledge about mortise and tenon in traditional furniture is one of the ways to inherit and spread the excellent traditional Chinese culture, which can help international students deepen their understanding of Chinese culture, promoting international students' education and international exchanges, and enhancing the fine cultural atmosphere on campus.

Professor Zhong Jinde, a national senior arts and crafts artist and representative inheritor of Jiangsu intangible cultural heritage mahogany carving skills, was invited to the lecture. He analyzed in detail the historical development and technical characteristics of the mortise and tenon structure in traditional Chinese furniture, shared his in-depth thinking on the practice of mahogany carving and the process of artistic creation, explained his creative ideas and principles of traditional skills and modern innovation. In the lecture, Mr. Zhong invited international students to experience the assembling of mortise and tenon and answered their questions. The interaction enhanced the participants' deep understanding of mortise and tenon wisdom.

Kong De, an international student, said that Mr. Zhong's answer gave him a rather comprehensive understanding of the characteristics and production skills of Chinese furniture in various dynasties, and he was deeply attracted by the exquisite structure of mortise and tenon. Without a nail, only through the combination of components, one can make the wooden structure closely connected, which is not only about technology, but also the embodiment of the wisdom and spirit of the Chinese nation. He said:" I was deeply shocked and sincerely expressed my respect for this unique cultural heritage."
