BFU hosts the 2nd Jiufeng Green International Youth Scholars Forum

From January 4th to 5th, Beijing Forestry University hosted the 2nd Jiufeng Green International Youth Scholars Forum. The forum's opening ceremony was attended by BFU President An Lizhe and was  presided over by Vice President Zhang Zhiqiang. Eighty young scholars from over ten countries, representing 39 prestigious universities and research institutions—including MIT, Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), Durham University (UK), Laurier University (Canada), Waseda University (Japan), Aalto University (Finland), Aarhus University (Denmark), the University of Adelaide (Australia), Politecnico di Milano, Sungkyunkwan University (Korea), Tsinghua University, Peking University, the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Wuhan University), the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and China Agricultural University—engaged in academic discussions both on-site and virtually across various fields such as forestry, biology, ecology, grass science, and economics.

An Lizhe warmly welcomed the young scholars from around the world attending the forum. He emphasized that hosting the forum reflects Beijing Forestry University's commitment to embodying the ethos of the new era talent conference. For 70 years, the university has achieved significant advancements in ecological civilization, particularly in research involving forests, grasslands, deserts, wetlands, and urban and rural ecosystems. He highlighted that BFU has adhered to a philosophy of talent-driven strengthening and has initiated a series of groundbreaking and innovative measures. The implementation of initiatives such as the "5·5 Project" for talent cultivation, a systematic approach to talent recruitment, and the "Live and Work in Contentment Plan" have turned BFU into a hub for rapidly developing outstanding scholars. These scholars are driving a continuous stream of scientific and technological innovations, progressively enhancing disciplines, and achieving historic construction platform breakthroughs. An Lizhe stated that BFU will rededicate itself to attracting and nurturing talents with an open mindset and amass a cohort of exceptional individuals to contribute to the construction of ecological civilization. BFU remains confident in paving the way for the youth and eagerly anticipates collaborating with more young scholars on a new journey towards the modernization of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature, contributing their wisdom and vigor.

Vice President Zhang Zhiqiang highlighted that the Jiufeng Green International Youth Scholars Forum is designed to fully embody the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the central government's Talent Work Conference. The forum deeply embeds the strategy of strengthening the university through talent, focusing on the national strategy of serving ecological civilization construction. This initiative aims to build a world-class university grounded in China. It creates an academic exchange platform and a stage for showcasing the achievements of young talents domestically and internationally who harbor "the ambition to serve the country and the responsibility to thrive the forest." The forum encourages these youth talents to expand their horizons, foster cooperation, and gain a comprehensive understanding of BFU by engaging with academic frontiers. He expressed a sincere hope that more outstanding young talents from around the globe would join BFU and contribute to the new era.

At the opening ceremony, Hu Qi, Deputy Director of the Fund Management Office of the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation, was invited to provide an authoritative interpretation of the application process for the China Postdoctoral Science Fund. The relevant person in charge of the Department of Human Resources introduced the teaching staff and personnel policies of BFU.

The second Jiufeng Green International Youth Scholars Forum featured seven academic report exchanges, including one keynote address and six sub-forum presentations.  Two representatives of national high-level talents and two young scholars delivered keynote speeches, while eleven young talent representatives and sixty-five young scholars from around the world shared their academic achievements during the sub-forum sessions.  Topics such as plant diversity evolution, poplar annual cycle development, scientific sand control, plantation ecosystem structure, climate change and vegetation phenology, optimal allocation of sustainable agricultural water resources, membrane water treatment, carbon nanomaterials, sustainable furniture system design, wood biomimetic materials, and other fields were discussed in depth.  The forum was live-streamed with over 6,500 virtual attendees, generating enthusiastic responses from faculty and students both within the university and beyond.

Leaders of the Division of CPC Organization, Department of Human Resources, Academic Affairs Office, Division of Science & Technology, Graduate School, Office for Development and Planning, secretaries and deans of colleges, discipline leaders, youth talent representatives, and youth scholars at home and abroad attended the forum.
