The 9th National University Timber Structure Design Final Competition recently concluded at Zhejiang University. Beijing Forestry University’s project "Jielu" won the competition's sole first prize, marking the university's best performance in the event's history.

Themed on "Design of Rural Agricultural Innovation Cultivation Base", the competition attracted 32 teams from universities nationwide during the preliminary round. Over three months of preparation, BFU's "Jielu" team worked collaboratively on architectural design, structural calculations, carbon emission analysis, model fabrication, and presentation materials. During the finals, the team's exceptional performance in project reporting and defense earned high praise from the judges for their innovative design concepts, theoretical analysis, and detailed execution.

The "Jielu" team, formed by students from the School of Soil and Water Conservation, the School of Landscape Architecture,the School of Materials Science, highlights interdisciplinary collaboration at its finest. Team members Zhang Ailin, Yuan Yehong, Yang Feng, and Ma Ruiyu, guided by Associate Professors Liu Wen and Duan Wei, brought together their expertise to compete successfully.

This initiative exemplifies BFU's rich expertise in green architecture and sustainable building materials, reflecting the synergy of cross-disciplinary efforts between students and faculty.

Established in 2016, the National University Timber Structure Design Competition is co-organized by Tongji University and the Civil Engineering Teaching Guidance Subcommittee under the Ministry of Education.

This year's event, hosted by Zhejiang University, featured a panel of esteemed judges, including professors and experts from the University of British Columbia (UBC), Tongji University, Nanjing Forestry University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Zhejiang University, as well as leading design institutes such as the Zhejiang Architectural Design and Research Institute and the Zhejiang University Design Institute.
