CNRS and INRAE visit BFU

On September 22, the delegation led by Philippe Arnaud, Director of the China Office of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), and representatives from the National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment (INRAE) China, came to Beijing Forestry University for exchanges. Vice president of BFU Li Xiong attended the meeting, which was hosted by the relevant person in charge of the International Exchange and Cooperation Department of BFU.

Li Xiong extended welcome to the French delegation, and introduced the advantageous and featured disciplines, the achievements of internationalization development, and the new development stage of "One University with Two Dstricts" of BFU. He said that the "Sino-France Joint Laboratory For Invasive Forest Pests in Eurasia" established by BFU and the French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment is the best embodiment of the strong combination of Sino-France forestry higher education and research, which provides a strong support for the construction of "first-class disciplines" and high-quality development of BFU. It is hoped that the two sides can strengthen exchanges and mutual learning and carry out substantive series of international exchanges and cooperation in more fields in the future in line with the global theme, and jointly bring new vitality to education.


Arnaud expressed his gratitude to BFU for its warm reception, and made a brief introduction to the CNRS. He said that as a national scientific and technological institution under the direct jurisdiction of the French Ministry of Higher Education Research and Innovation(Ministre de l'Enseignement Supérieur, de la Recherche et de l'Innovation), CNRS boasts the world's leading research technology. He hoped that the two sides can give full play to their respective advantages and establish an international scientific and technological cooperation network to jointly cope with global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity and ecological environment protection.


In the professional exchange session, the Chinese Executive Director of the Sino-France Joint Laboratory For Invasive Forest Pests in Eurasia focused on the establishment, scientific research progress, talent training, future plannings of the Laboratory. Joanne Van Baaren, Director of the Mixed Research Unit -ECOBIO of CNRS and professor of Universite Rennes, introduced the ECOBIO Center in Rennes and its international scientific and technological cooperation project. The two sides discussed the research on forest invasive species, and reached consensus on jointly holding academic seminars in the future and jointly applying for international science and technology cooperation network projects.

After the meeting, the delegation visited the BFU Museum and was attracted by its rich collection of biological specimens. In the insect exhibition hall on the second floor, the delegation learned more about the pests and pest wood specimens on display.
