From November 11 to 13, "2023 International Landscape Architects Symposium" was held in Beijing Forestry Univerisity. An Lizhe, President of BFU, Li Xiong, Vice president of BFU, Wu Zhiqiang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Dean of the College of Landscape Architecture of BFU, and authoritative experts from China, the United States, France, Hong Kong, China and other countries and regions attended the symposium. The forum was held offline with more than 300 people from BFU and other places all over the world sharing experiences of landscape architecture.

An Lizhe delivered a speech at the opening ceremony and congratulated on the successful opening of the forum. He pointed out that as the pioneer of ecological conservation, green development and innovation of agricultural and forestry higher education, BFU needs to contribute to the improvement of urban and rural environment as well as the modernization of harmonious coexistence between man and nature. "Landscape in Process", the theme of the forum, emphasizes the dynamic and sustainable features of landscape architecture and the importance of the process of constant evolution and change of landscapes. The process, which must be recognized in the field, will help to make more efficient use of landscape resources, improve the living environment, and provide guarantees for the optimization of global landscapes and the construction of beautiful home for human. He hoped that this forum will provide a platform of in-depth academic communication, broaden academic horizons, and promote the research and development of landscape architecture.

The main forum was presided over by Li Xiong, who expressed his sincere thanks and warm welcome to Academician Wu Zhiqiang and othe speakers from home and abroad. He introduced the development history of the symposium since 2015, pointing out that the symposium has been committed to inheriting and carrying forward the excellent tradition of Chinese landscape architecture, absorbing the world's advanced landscape architecture science and technology concepts, and inspiring and encouraging more landscape architects to explore new ideas and new ways of urban and rural development. Wu Zhiqiang, as the invited speaker, gave a speech on the topic of "Design Process: Iteration of External Building and Internal Renovation", from the three aspects of mastering discipline rules, coping with climate change, and enhancing the global value of landscape architecture, expressing full confidence and positive prospects for the development of the discipline.

At the main forum, authoritative experts from different countries and regions conducted in-depth discussions and exchanges surround the theme. Professor G.Maathias Kondolf, Professor Wang Fang, Professor Magali PARIS, Professor Zhu Yufan, Professor Ivan VALIN, Ms. Florence MERCIER, and Professor Zheng Xi gave speeches entitled "Restoring River Process and Floodplain Connectivity: Experiences from North America and Europe”, "Watershed Human Settlement Landscape in the Process", "The Call of Rewilding", "Chenshan: Changing Landscape", "What we know: Teaching and Practicing Landscape Architecture in a Dynamic Age", "Figuring Cities with Water & Nature" and "Cognition and Translation of Landscape Architecture in the Process of Time and Space"respectively.

At the Youth Forum, 7 young scholars from well-known universities and enterprises such as BFU, Tongji University, Southeast University, City University of Hong Kong, Central Academy of Fine Arts, and Zhishe Landscape had in-depth discussions and exchanges on topics such as "the generation process of digital landscape", "post-industrial landscape renewal", and "harmonious coexistence between man and nature".

It is reported that the symposium was guided by the Chinese Society of Landscape Architecture, hosted by BFU, College of Landscape Architecture of BFU, Beijing Laboratory of Urban and Rural Ecological Environment, Beijing Landscape Architecture Magazine Co., LTD., Ecological Environment of Urban and Rural Human Settlements (Beijing Municipal Education Commission through the Innovative Transdisciplinary Program), BFU Chinese Landscape Architecture Thought Research Center co-hosted. The symposium has been held by BFU for 7 years on different themes, becoming one of most influential symposiums in the field of landscape architecture.
