BFUers win prizes on 2023 World Youth Development Forum

Recently, the 2023 World Youth Development Forum--Thematic Forum for Response to Climate and Food Crisis was held in Beijing Shougang Park. The 11th Mother River Award winner list was released on the forum and Beijing Forestry University A4210 environmental protection practice project was awarded the 11th Mother River Award "Green Project Award". 17 teachers and students of BFU participated in elevator pitchs and seminars on the forum.

BFU International students from Russia, the United States, Pakistan, Iraq, Myanmar, Yemen and other countries, together with Chinese students, shared their views and opinions in accordance with the global Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs) of the United Nations on the platform. The international students expressed their proposals and hopes for poverty eradication, hunger elimination, good health and well-being, quality education, climate action and other themes based on their respective national conditions and experiences in China, and together with Hu Sheng, Secretary of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, they lit up the 17 SDGs, calling for openness, inclusiveness, connectivity and common development among all countries, and unremitting efforts for sustainable development and modernization of the world, so that the fruits of modernization will benefit people of all countries in a more equitable manner.

Zhao Qiyao, the 2020 doctoral student of the College of Landscape Architecture of BFU and the head of the 9th Ecological Civilization Doctor Lecturers' group, gave an elevator pitch with other 9 youths from home and abroad. Starting from a story of a small corn seed in the hands of a child, she told about the 11-year development stories of the lecturers' group in which more than 300 lecturers from 11 professional fields such as forestry, ecology and landscape architecture delivered lectures to affect the public of 850,000 people. She called on young students to go outside the campus and, with their professional knowledge and enthusiasm, drive more people to take action to jointly protect the beautiful world.

On behalf of A4210 environmental protection Practice project, the person in charge of the Communist Youth League Committee of BFU, received, the 11th Mother River Award "Green Project Award", the authoritative award in the field of national ecological civilization.

Built in 2012, A4210 Environmental Protection Practice project is a green environmental protection practice initiated by BFU students, aiming to call on the public to take actions in 21 days to develop low-carbon environmental protection habits in the four aspects of "clothing, food, use and transportation", and achieve "0" waste and "0" emissions. So far, more than 70,000 students have participated in the project and their pratices cover 158 communities and 23 parks and squares, indirectly affecting more than 100,000 people.It is reported that the forum, with the theme of "Youth action in unity to drive development through innovation", is divided into four thematic forums, which aims to enhance solidary cooperation among youth to promote global development initiatives and SDGshelp implement the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, mobilizing young people at home and abroad to demonstrate their responsibility and strength through practical actions.
